Osaka

大阪

About 20 buses a day link Awaji and Osaka directly. The buses provide links to Awaji’s three main bus stations (in Tsuna, Sumoto, and Seidan), as well as a few stops on the highway (like Awaji IT).

To/From Minami-Awaji

Fifteen buses a day link the Shichi bus stop, close to the Seidan bus station, with Osaka. All buses stop at 3 locations in Osaka: JR Osaka station, JR Namba station, and Nankai Namba station. A very small number of the buses also serve the themepark Universal Studios Japan (USJ). The schedules are as follows:

From Shichi to Osaka

6:53, 7:33*, 8:13, 8:55, 9:40, 10:15, 11:10, 13:10, 14:10, 15:10, 16:10, 17:10, 18:23, 19:33, 20:40

Only the bus at 7:33 brings visitors to USJ.

From Osaka to Shichi

These times are when the buses leave Nankai Namba station. The buses take 15 minutes to travel to JR Namba, and a further 15 minutes to JR Osaka:

6:55, 7:55, 9:05, 11:05, 12:25, 14:00, 15:05, 16:00, 16:35, 17:25*, 18:00, 18:30*, 19:10, 20:05, 21:05

The two buses at 17:25 and 18:30 both stop at USJ.

Notes

Some of the above buses travel directly between Shichi and Osaka, while some stop in Sannomiya, taking longer. Buses take anywhere from rougly an hour and 45 minutes to two hours and 45 minutes, depending on the route and where in Osaka you get on/off. Buses cost ¥2350 to any destination in Osaka.

For more specific details, see the website (Japanese only) of the bus operator.

To/From Sumoto

Six buses a day link Sumoto and Osaka directly, with most buses also serving Tsuna bus station, as well as a number of highway stops, including Awaji IT (Iwaya).

There are two direct routes:

One route runs without stopping all the way between Awaji and Osaka, starting/terminating at the Hankyu Umeda station in Osaka. This route is indicated in red below.

The other route stops at Maiko and Sannomiya (Kobe) on its way to Osaka. Times to/from Maiko and Sannomiya are covered elsewhere on the web page. This route stops at two locations in Osaka: the JR Namba station, and the JR Osaka station. This route is indicated in black below:

NOTES

Bus fares to/from Osaka run from ¥1250 (Awaji IT) to ¥2050 (Tsuna) to ¥2350 (Sumoto).

The Hankyu Umeda bus station and JR Osaka bus station are within easy walking distance of each other. Allow yourself plenty of time to find the right bus station though, as the area around Umeda/Osaka JR station is busy and chaotic.

Also, there are alternatives to the direct buses. You can travel by train from Osaka to Sannomiya or Maiko, and catch one of the frequent buses from there, or you can travel from Osaka to Akashi and take the boat to Iwaya from there. Depending on the time of day, and where in Awaji you want to go, these latter options might be more convenient.
