Sumoto Bus Station

洲本バスセンター

As the largest town on Awaji, Sumoto is home to the biggest bus station. It sits in the center of the main town, close to the beach, and has numerous buses heading off the island.

There are two main routes between Sumoto and Maiko/Sannomiya: most buses travel along the coast to the Tsuna bus station, and then take the expressway from Tsuna. But some buses travel directly to the expressway entrance closest to Sumoto, offering a slightly speedier service.

The trip to Maiko takes about an hour.

To SANNOMIYA

Buses serve two distinct bus stations in Sannomiya, but they’re very close to each other. Buses take about an hour and a half. Some of the buses continue on to Shin-Kobe.

OTHER DESTINATIONS

You can also find buses from Sumoto’s bus station heading to Gakuentoshi (roughly 10 buses a day), Osaka (6 buses a day), and Shikoku (3-4 buses a day). There are also a number of local services from here to other destinations on Awaji.

Other Bus Stops

Of most use to visitors is the Sumoto IC stop on the expressway, several kilometers away from central Sumoto. In addition to a few extra buses to Sannomiya, this stop also has buses heading to Kansai Airport.
